Classic meets Flamenco

For their new project Duo Joncol have put together a very special ensemble. With the versatile percussionist Kurt Fuhrmann and the flamenco singer Anna Colom a unique formation has been found. This also means that they are pursuing unusual paths in their search for repertoire.

From June to July 2015, Britta Schmitt and Carles Guisado set off for Andalusia with the "PfeiferMobil" in order to gain new inspiration for transcriptions and compositions and continue to immerse themselves in the combination of classical Spanish music with Andalusian folklore.

In their new project "Joncol4 - Aires de Andalucía", they present works by de Falla and Albéniz, newly composed works by Carles Guisado.

Guitar & Percussion

The percussionist Kurt Fuhrmann appears as a special guest. In addition to studying jazz drums, he is particularly interested in various percussion instruments from different cultural backgrounds.

Thus he came into contact with instruments such as the Cajón, African water drums or the Ghatam, a South Indian percussion instrument made of clay.

A concert experience of a special kind with music for two guitars in combination with the percussion of Kurt Fuhrmann.

Classic meets Folklore

Music by classical composers who use the elements of folklore in their country as inspiration for their own works.

Besides the folklore of Andalusia - in the works of Manuel de Falla and Feliu Gasull - romantic sounds in the music of Enrique Granados and Egberto Gismonti as well as Cuban and Brazilian rhythms in the compositions of Leo Brouwer and Paulo Bellinati are part of the programme.

Catalan music

One of the Duo Joncol's passions is the promotion and performance of Catalan music. This leads her to collaborate with Catalan composers such as Feliu Gasull and Carles Eroles, who dedicated one of their works to them. Catalunya is a project with music by old and young masters from the region.

25 years of the city twinning Cologne-Barcelona

Cologne meets Barcelona "- a project by the German-Catalan guitar duo for the 25th anniversary of the twinning between Cologne and Barcelona, with which Britta Schmitt and Carles Guisado have brought together artists from both cities to realize joint concerts in Cologne. Supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne and the SK-Kultur support programme.

A meeting of Spanish dance and music - Duo Joncol with the Catalan dancer Vanesa González García. A dancer who is a master of classical Spanish dance as well as contemporary dance and flamenco. The tradition of Spanish dance is part of the Vanesa González García family. As children of a flamenco dancer and flamenco singer, she and her sister grew up on stage.

Spanish and South American Rhythms - Love Poems by Pablo Neruda

"In the evening I bowed and threw out my wretched nets into the surf, where your oceanic eyes..." Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) was a Chilean poet and writer who fought mainly against fascism in his home country and Spain. In her novel "The Ghost House", the writer Isabel Allende describes Neruda's funeral as a "symbolic burial of freedom".

In 1971, Pablo Neruda received the Nobel Prize for Literature. His name and poems are omnipresent in Chile and throughout South America.

Hommage to Federico García Lorca

Autobiographical texts and dramatic poems in German and Spanish, paired with Spanish music.
Federico García Lorca has become a symbol of freedom and humanity for the Spaniards - his poetic work, the eternal voice of Spain. At the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War (July 17,1936), he was one of the first to fall victim to the violence of Franco-Fascism.
